Planting Dutch Iris at the totally wrong time (Virginia / 7B)

Post Body

I just received 175 Dutch iris mix bulbs today (May 19). These are generally planted in the fall, but I don't know whether I can just hang onto these bulbs until October-ish.... what would happen if I were to plant them now? I can't seem to find anywhere online that indicates it's OK to plant them beyond very early spring, but I'm worried the bulbs will dry out if I hang onto them through the summer heat.

What should I do? FWIW, I'm a home gardener dedicated to pollinator-friendly, native gardening. These would be planted among creeping phlox, Dianthus, and sedum.
