Avocado tree sprouted from compost.

Stuck this young avocado into a pot once we noticed it was growing in the compost. In Bay Area, CA, any advice on what to do? Should we trim it and if so where. Kind of a miracle all the while I have tried sprouting avocado seeds but they never got too far! I want to keep this little tree healthy.
