Iâm planning on planting a privacy âfenceâ with fig trees. I bought a few cuttings online which I have rooting right now and I bought some bare root cuttings from my local box store. I live in eastern North Carolina zone 8b. I want to grow them into mature trees and not have to cut them back every year. How far apart should I plant them? I started planting them 6ft apart which would give them a 12 ft wing span. Is that too much space? I know fig trees grow big but wouldnât 12ft take too long to fill in? Also I do want to train them into a manicured 10ft hedge. If I plant them too close I would have to continually prune them so they wonât get mangled I would assume . Anyone have any advice on the best spacing so it wonât take 10-15 years to fill in but they wonât be overly crowded.
