I'm itching to play a game that focuses on exploration and makes me feel lost, claustrophobic, and lonely
Post Body

Preferably PC, Switch, or anything emulator-friendly

I'm looking for something very atmospheric and creepy, with the sense of exploring some unknown or alien territory where you don't know what dangers lie around the corner or you may not know if you can ever find your way back.

Some things I'm looking for:

  • Uncovering and exploring something that feels truly unknown or uncharted in the context of the game world or from the player's perspective
  • Antagonists/enemies that are more psychological and abstract, rather than a villain to hit or shoot at
  • Locations like uncharted space, long cave systems, catacombs, deep sea, etc.
  • More tension and dread than jump scares (though occasional jump scares are fine as long as they don't feel cheap or like a crutch)
  • Themes of "going deeper"

It doesn't have to be a horror game, either. In fact, one of the best examples I can think of are the dungeons in Daggerfall, minus most enemies being just something to hit. Even with the map, you feel really lost every time you are in the middle of one, until you start to recognize the chunks they used for the procedural generation.

Some other games I've played that match or get close to the tone that I'm looking for are Subnautica, Amnesia: TDD, SOMA, Elite: Dangerous, Sunless Sea, and Diablo 1

Thanks!
