I really like RPGs with real-time combat and hotbars where you can spam a bunch of skills and there's a colorful particle show going on on the screen. An example would be all the Dragon Age games. I enjoyed the first one the most, and some mage skills were very pleasant to look at. If it has a great story, that would be the icing on the cake. If you can play as a mage, that's even better. I don't enjoy turn-based combat at all, and I feel it's something I should mention. Another game I played that had some great spells was Dragon's Dogma. Even though Dragon's Dogma evoked similar vibes to Dragon Age, story and dialogue-wise it felt tremendously inferior. I don't care if the game is super old as long as the story and gameplay are tight. Graphics are at the bottom of my list.
