Hey there! Thanks for taking the time to read. As the title states, I'm looking for awesome games that hit a certain vibe. The games will be played in a group setting (~10 people) on a 120" 4K projector screen - it'd be great if they're visually striking, but not absolutely necessary. I'm looking to cover a breadth of emotions (fear, awe, humor, depression, etc.) and to be able to consume multiple games in one sitting.
I've done this sort of thing once previously, for my birthday a few months ago, and everyone had an absolute blast. There were adult intoxicants involved, but it ended with cheering and clapping from everyone, even non-gamers! So, I really want to try and repeat the experience with fresh games.
For my birthday, we played:
- Dear Esther: Landmark Edition (1h)
- Happy Game (2h)
- The Stanley Parable (30m)
- ABZÛ (4h)
My intent was to start with a narrator-heavy, morose theme to get everyone to stop talking and pay attention, a psychotic creepy/horror game to get under everyone's skin once focused, then a funny game to wash it all off, and finally a really, really beautiful game to end on a high note. It was important to me that the games not demand much of anyone's reflexes, and that we would be comfortable passing a controller around from person to person with the rest of the group watching the game as if it were a movie. This all went great. After, we killed time playing Outer Wilds and chatting, but had no intent on beating the game. I thought this also worked well.
Here's some other games I'd be considering after searching through SteamDB and doing some filtering:
- Gris
- The Last Campfire
- Life Is Strange
- Oxenfree
- Samorost 3
- The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
- Firewatch
What other video games are quick to play, very simple to control, emotionally evocative, and preferably beautifully animated?
Thanks <3
