What a tough but rewarding game.
Post Body

Hey guys and gals i wanted to share this with you. i know it's a long post and i'm sorry if it's not the normal for this subreddit but i really just thought that you all may enjoy it.

This is a sunrise in a game called the long dark. This game if you aren't aware is survival. It's not zombie survival as is common but pure on you versus nature survival with the occasional wolf pack thrown in (and a bear but that's besides the point) but at heart it's all about finding ways to survive in sub 0C weather usually hovering around -13C or so marooned in some northen Canada woods. You have to find food water clothing heat and find ways to sleep without freezing to death or being eaten or just falling down a breaking a bone or something like that all while contending with not so high stamina and weight limits that affect the above mentioned stats.

You have to understand that this isn't the type of game i play. I do a wide variety of games but never pure me versus nature and what a adjustment period it was. Thankfully the idea of rationing out water and food isn't something to understand. I'm playing on the story mode which is the easiest of them and even without being attacked i'm having issues just surviving each night. I think i'm ready but the game laughs at me and throws a curveball at me.

This picture was taken after a night full of heavy windstorms -20C low food while dealing with low stamina and exhastion and not being able to see more than a few feet in front of me because of how damned dark it can get. I spent the night running looking at my map every minute making sure i didn't get lost while praying that my guy didn't pass out from the exhaustion. I just barely made it to a roofed area with a stove to warm up and to cook food on. So close like i could barely see a thin sliver on the sleep bar. It was the single most stressful experience of my life much higher than being stalked by a bear or wolves or any other style game. Fuck that bear by the way. I won't spoil why but that bear can go fuck off to the deepest pit of hell.

After spending the night stabilizing i step out and see this. I can't describe the feeling i had. It's like the game knew what i just went through and wanted to treat me and what a treat it was. In all my life of gaming (29 years) i've never felt something like that. I never knew i could enjoy a video game sunset so much. It's a sense of accomplishment like no other. I just started story 3 and i can honestly say i'm excited to see what the game will throw at me. After surviving that night i honestly think i'm ready. If you haven't played this and even have the slighest interest in surviving with your own wits you really need to. i hope you enjoyed my little ramble. Like i said i have no idea why i wanted to type this just.. felt like sharing.
