My wife and I have owned an XBox 360 for a couple years now without any issues. Recently, though, we were convinced to buy a bunch of eco-friendly upgrades for the house that included power bars with timers on them. Unfortunately, they didn't come with surge protection.
This August was one of the stormiest in memory and we got multiple thunderstorms that killed power to the neighborhood. Now when we try to load up the XBox 360 it often pauses while loading a game, or simply when turned on. More often than not, we simply can't use it any more - when we turn it on, it gives us the red ring of death.
We don't use it every day, but we do miss having it around. Is there a place we could take it to to get it repaired, or are we stuck buying a new one? It's long past warranty, and our local game store told us they don't repair them.
What happens to DLC, achievements and XBox Live arcade games we've purchased - do they stay with the hard drive or the account? Is there a way to save our save games?
If we do have to get a new one...where's a good place to buy one for cheap? Used is fine.
