Looking for a coop game like Minecraft

The wife and I have played a lot of minecraft, but found ourselves bored because we were looking for more of an action-type game with building slipped into the game as well. We found 7 Days to Die and planet explorers (I really like the look of the latter) but we aren't wanting to pay $20 for a game that isn't out yet. Can anyone recommend a game with a building mechanic that supports CO-Op gameplay and is simply fun to survive in?
