TVs in the before times, in the long long ago, did not have inputs like displays today have. They accepted analog VHF and UHF signals. You might recognize the top connector as it's still used today.
The bottom two wires connected to two terminals on the back of the TV. They were just screws but calling them terminals sounds better. Here's a picture of what the terminals looked like. https://i.imgur.com/egFf28G.jpeg
You would put the terminal around the screw and then tighten the screw. The box takes the video signal from a game console and sends it to the TV. Typically the box they are holding would have a switch for changing the output of the box between channel 3 and 4, although I don't see that switch so I guess it always output on one channel.
