I think the game was shortened because the online RE community complained so much that the planned DLC was canned, which I believe would have filled in the gaps and added the extra story beats that were missing from the original. I blame the RE community for that.
It’s also interesting to me that people compare it to RE2R when 3make was the longer of the two games and had loads more replayability, in my mind.
