lighting idea for console cube storage

so i have an idea i am trying to think if there is a way to accomplish it and the main way i can think if is using some sort of smart controller or smart plug system. but thought i would ask for inputs. i want to do something like the lighting system below but have it only light up when a console is on. basically when its taking an actual draw of power. so if i turn on my NES it lights up the cube with the NES in it. and turns off when its not on. anyone toyed with a similar idea?
