So the white/silver hair that Targaryens have is a defining characteristic and the Targaryen family used it as sign that someone was of dragon blood. But my issue is how some kids get silver or other colored hair seemingly at random. In the show they cast the Velaryons with brown skin. I actually like the change because it makes the âStrong boysâ appearance drastically different from Laenor. Everyone in the realm can see the obvious lol.
The issue is when the Targaryens must marry outside the family. Often with house Baratheon and Arryn. It seems to follow no biological rules and it kinda erks me. Aemma the first wife of Viserys is an Arryn. Her father is Rodrik Arryn brown of hair. Princess Rhaenysâ mother is from Storms End, Jocelyn Baratheon black of hair. Yet both of these women have silver hair. All of Viserysâ children with Alicent have silver hair yet she has brown hair.
With Princess Rhaenyraâs first 3 boys fathered by Harwin Strong all of them have brown hair. I understand the skin tone difference with these boys is enough for the normal folk to question is Laenor the father. But should at least one of them gotten silver hair? I mean Jacaerys had an egg in his cradle that hatched into Vermax so that proves that on the inside he has dragon blood.
Finally with Jon Snow his parents are Lyanna Stark and Prince Rhaegar. Obviously brown hair and silver hair, so Jon comes out with brown hair. I wouldnât have an issue with this if it didnât seem kinda random which child gets silver hair if they arenât pure (inbreed) Targaryens. Also if he had silver hair Robert would have killed him no matter what Ned said. So lucked out this time lol
