It is my impression that Dothraki women and children do not fight in battle. So even if the horde of Dothraki men were defeated in Season 8 Episode 3 in the charge against the army of the dead, wouldn’t there still be plenty of women and children left behind to continue their language, culture, and traditions? Wouldn’t Dany have left the Dothraki who weren’t fighting behind while she went to take the seven kingdoms?
And why do people on this site keep referring to the Dothraki as uncivilized savages? As if that’s why they were massacred during the battle.
The Dothraki are not Westerosi. They have an entirely different set of cultural values, language systems, social hierarchies, knowledge systems, and fighting styles. The Dothraki horde charged on the army of wights because that’s what they know how to do. That is what makes the Dothraki powerful and fearsome in their own country, in their own culture.
Being different from the Westerosi and other cultural groups does not make you a savage. It does not make you uncivilized. It makes you different. And it’s ethnocentric to judge one culture through the lens of another.
The Dothraki were devastated during that battle because their offensive fighting style did not suite the defensive tactics needed to fight an army of wights that have 1. No concern for their own survival anymore and would literally crush each other to death on the NK’s orders, 2. Don’t feel pain, hunger or exhaustion, and 3. VASTLY outnumber the living. They did not die because they were “savages.”
