How to generate and assign random hashes for dynamic grid to reference from

I have a large grid that occasionally creates, shifts and deletes rows, with data in that row also changing, but I want to access a row's specific data at any point.
Is there a tested way of assigning an ID or hash value that is random and doesn't do duplicates?
