I have been building my portfolio for a little over 3 years now, and while I am happy with some of the progress I have made, a question continues to come up in my mind; will developers hire employees from out of state? I understand the inherit risk involved with such a thing, which is why I ask. Are there companies willing to take such a risk?
A friend of mine is working for Bioware and he lived maybe an hour away. I am not so fortunate, and live on the East Coast (where most of the companies I am looking at are on the West Coast), My friend seems confident they do not hire such a long distance, and my searches have given me little help.
Moving isn't an issue for me, I would be able to pay for it myself. But getting an offer is the problem I face now.
TL;DR - Do game devs hire employees from out of state?
