I wanted some insight and your perspective on how I could improve myself while I wander through the process of entering the Game Development while explaining my goals and aspirations. I did take in a lot of insight on my previous post and listened to the advice all of you have provided me which I appreciate.
- I am currently Active Duty so I plan on utilising AF Cool for the "Professional Software Developer Certification" then work towards my Operational Science CCAF Associates degree.
- I want to research for any local Yellow Ribbon university near me so that I can strive to obtain another Associates Degree in Games and Interactive Media Design, I did have the option of a Digital Arts degree but from my research the former is preferred as there are more options to use it. Let me know whether I am right or wrong on this.
- Once I seperate I want to utilize my GI Bill to obtain my Computer Science Bachelor's degree meanwhile I would like to apply for the internship position at Activision.
- Afterward while I wrap up my degree I would be working as an Aviation Maintenance Technician which I do not know if having this position would help me when applying to a AAA Studio.
- I also want to work on personal projects and start taking commissions for player models to improve on my skills with Blender or ZBrush as well to improve and build my portfolio.
- The first AAA Studio I would like to apply for is Activision Blizzard just to be able to learn the inner workings and expand my experience although I have heard a ton of negative stories from former workers and Glass Door reviews but the AAA Studio that I would love to work for is Insomniac Games.
The current studios I am interested working with from most to least would be Insomniac, Activision, and lastly Naughty Dog. Simply because I thoroughly enjoy the games that these studios and also I do not know most other studios. I have heard that they pay exceptionally low for a Game Dev salary however they do pay pretty well in my opinion, what is the actual average salary that a Game Dev should make.
What can I do to improve or expand my experience with additional certificates or self-taught programs ? Thank you and I appreciate any and all your advice.
