Top down, 2d abstract? art style shooter

Im thinking about making a faced paced, top down shooter where there isn't any detailed sprites (im not good enough to make any), and your the only gray one, so the brightly coloured try to kill you, do you have any tips about differentiating objects such as shotgun vs assault rifle, or chairs and tables. I could, for the chairs example have the armrests a slightly lighter colour etc. Any examples of top down abstract games especially top down, or any true top down shooters (not isometric) or just any tips for making this, thank you
