Hi folks! I'm currently working on a video essay and I need some input. Specifically on the Exploration Loop in open world games. As an example in a game like Skyrim it goes something like this:
Walk. Find dungeon. Walk. Combat encounter. Walk. Find Dungeon. Etc
And also on a larger scale with different "biomes" or regions.
What makes an exploration Loop satisfying? What makes you lose interest or become bored? What methods are there for leading players from activity to activity? Don't just limit yourselves to these examples!
I'm intrigued to see what the community has to say on this.
