Hi! I'm a newer user to redit, and I found this sub, and as an aspiring collector (I've been back and forth on having a decent collection, and not having much because being an adult sucks, so I have to reluctantly sell a bunch of games to pay for other things), I felt the urge to hop on the ride.
I wanna ask everyone here, if you get a game that is still sealed, do you keep it sealed (and possibly get it graded), or are you willing to open it if it's a game you are legitimately interested in trying?
Like, if you found a GameCube/Wii/PS2/360/etc. Game that you didn't already have that you've wanted to try sealed, would you open it and try it out? Or would you rather get the sealed copy, and then get another copy that is already open to play?
I've seen some mixed opinions on this, so I'd like to hear y'alls thoughts on this, and also see how you defend your answer.
Me personally, I think it depends on the age of the system/game, the value of the game, and how hard it will be to find another copy, sealed or not. If it's a Switch/PS4/5/Xbox One/Series X Game that is somewhat harder to find as it was a limited release. I'd probably be okay with opening it, as it is still newer, so it can't be TOO hard to get another copy sealed if I REALLY wanted a sealed copy.
If it's a GameCube/PS2/Wii or whatever, and it's something that CIB is around $30-$50, and $100-$150 New (or less), then I'd probably be okay opening it, as I'm not really looking to sell the game if I can avoid it. Depending on the game
If it's an old disc-based game that is $200 Brand New, or If it's an old Cartridge Based Game (N64, GameBoy/GBA, DS, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, etc), then I'd most likely keep it sealed, as I'd feel dirty bringing the value down by opening it. Even if itβs a game I'm legitimately interested in playing. I'd rater find an already open copy to play.
Let me know what y'all think!π
