Leit Motifs are important, in 5 seconds of soundtrack youâll know if the Daleks, Cybermen, Master, Torchwood, UNIT, any new era Doctor or companion are about to appear/be mentioned. You instantly know the context when you hear the music as your brain makes an association with Gold or Akinolaâs themes.
I loved the use of âMad Man in a Boxâ during Smith and Capaldiâs run as âwelcome to the TARDISâ theme. Itâs wondrous and magical, during Smithâs run it always plays over important TARDIS scenes, or daft little exchanges between the characters.
The Caretaker gives us a slowed, somber version which suits Twelve and then The Pilot gives us the bombastic version that fits Twelve stepping up to being the Doctor again after meeting Bill.
That being said, I loved the TARDIS theme Segun gave us in The Ghost Monument and Arachnids in the UK, it feels like a âTARDIS is travelingâ theme, seeing the visuals of Jodieâs box navigating the tunnels along with this music is great, and I hope Murray keeps the theme for similar scenes in this next era.
Also I wouldnât mind both Dalek themes being used in tandem, Goldâs theme is fear inducing, Akinolaâs highlights the menace of the Daleks
