2 Month Post Op Check In
Post Body

I feel like it might be helpful for certain people to see monthly progress on recovery because if you guys were like me, you'll want to know how the people who don't recover 100% in 2 or 3 weeks go. Biggest thing I want to say is that RECOVERY ISN'T LINEAR. Some days I feel 100%, some days I feel tightness or sore in my abdomen, some days I get more spasms or a scary one and it can be annoying, but I'm still better than I was before FOR SURE.

Things I am still dealing with at the 2 month mark:

  • General soreness, pain that feels like it's scar tissue healing, general tightness. Thankfully this has gone down in frequency even in the last month.
  • Spasms in my abdomen, usually above my belly button and slightly to the right. I complained about this a month ago and unfortunately it hasn't fully gone away. I think it's happening a little less than usual but it's hard to say for sure. If I had guess as to what it is, I'd say gas causes it. I never had those spasms before tho and sometimes when I get them they feel very uncomfortable but never painful. It's just annoying more than anything, although my health anxiety sometimes fears it's worse than it is.
  • I still get diarrhea with any bowel movements after my first of the day (IF I get any more than one). Not 100% sure if it's cause of the surgery because I take miralax for another issue, but it's still yellow so I assume it is.
  • I was diagnosed with NAFLD, not surprising since I was around 38 BMI and eating an incredible amount of crappy food with little to no exercise. Working on this.

Positive stuff at the 2 month mark:

  • Definitely less anxious about dealing with post op gb issues. I know some people have stuff pop up months or even a year post op, but there's no use "waiting" for something to pop up. If I need meds or anything, so be it.
  • I feel almost as good as I did pre op! My movement is almost all back, my stomach can still feel a bit tender here and there and I'm still hesitant to start lifting heavy stuff or doing too much movement, but I really want to start working out again so I'm going to try and push things little by little.

My tips:

  • Stick to your diet! I have little cheats here and there such as something sugary, 1 slice of pizza, chicken nuggets, but that's just to keep my sanity. Low fat diet has helped me lose weight and feel good, and better yet I haven't felt any phantom GB attacks like others say they have.
  • Take it easy but be as active as you can! I make sure to walk around for every 30 minutes I stay sitting or laying down.
  • Distract yourself as much as possible. This is probably the biggest tip I can give for people struggling with anxiety like I do. I was driving myself crazy with health anxiety, and still do sometimes, but I find that doing stuff like streaming on Twitch, playing games, and doing stuff in general to be invaluable. Working on getting a new job so hopefully that can help too.
  • Scheduling stuff out such as diet and sleep. I find structure to be good for me.
  • If you have any concerns see a doctor. I mentioned my spasms to my gastro and he said that isn't anything concerning and that helps me because I remember that whenever I feel one.
  • Don't be on this sub for too long. Yes it can help getting reassurance but you will also find other's bringing up negative stuff that can trigger your anxiety to get worse. I struggle with this with other health issues I have but I am aware it's not good.
