System Update: Memory WTF!?

Phone updated this morning with the security update. Available memory went from around 8 out of 12 GB to less than 3 out of 12. Battery is down more than usual as well. Avast app killer shows 108 apps using memory!? WTF!? Killing the apps actually lowers available memory... I've restarted the phone and also cleared the austen cache. No difference. What is going on with my phone? Or is it this dumb update?
