Set in a futuristic version of Japan, Tale of the Legendary Swordsman follows a group of 12 Legendary Swordmen who protect the city of Ajisen. These Legendary Swordsmen are split into 2 groups, the 4 Horsemen (War, Hidden, Death, Reality, these are the more dangerous of the blades) who go on missions outside the city, and the 7 Deadly Sins (Peace, Elemental, Beast, Cosmic, Tech, Martial Arts, Healing) who protect the city and operate different jobs, lastly there is the Jack of All Blades who operates the school Kenshin Academy that teaches new swordsmen. Each of the Legendary Swordsmen have mastered all of the skills in their sword art and the students of the Academy strive to replace them.

For hundreds of years the Legendary Swordsmen have protected Ajisen, helping the city evolve, learning new skills and adding new Swordsmen to their ranks. Of course this was no easy task. The city was constantly under attack from outside sources, either a group of savages who commanded beasts, bandits who want to steal the Legendary Blades for themselves. Not to mention some members of their own society were rebelling against the city and its rules, and some swordsmen were even being corrupted by the dark, turning into horrible demons and monsters.

One of the bigger dangers however was that the Legendary Swordsman of Reality had gone missing for a few years now. Rumor was that he had been lost in-between realities, but his sister, the Legendary Swordsman of Cosmic still hasn't found him. If he wasn't located, the very fabric of time might go into disarray.
