Why is water leaking out of my group head around the sides of my portafilter when the brew switch is on?

I took apart my GC in order to clean in. I rebuilt it and everything is exactly where it should be, so I really don't understand what is going on.

When I turn the brew function on, water leaks out the sides of the group head, around the portafilter, even though the portafilter is fit snugly into the group head. Why is this happening?

UPDATE: The leaking does NOT occur when I use a blind filter inside the portafilter. Instead, water is ejected through the OPV valve back into the tank. So the leak only occurs when I use my pressure gauge set-up WITH the regular portafilter. Not sure why that would happen.
