The war with the Kingdom of Beasts was finally over. The kingdom celebrated, joyous cheers and songs of victory rose up from every citizen. From the peasants in the streets, to the guards and soldiers at the palace ground, all the way to the nobility within the castle itself. Your castle, to be specific.

You are the Queen of this kingdom, and you could not be prouder of your people. This war had been going on since you were a child, and you had since grown and inherited the throne. Under your rule, the Kingdom of Astrum had finally claimed its victory over the beast-folk to the west. Tonight was the grand celebration of that victory, and with such celebrations of course came gifts for you. Everything from gold and gemstones to magical blessings upon you and your people. The gifts seem never ending, and it’s all rather standard fare for such things. Well, up until the end of the night that is…

A large cage is suddenly rolled in, a tarp covering what hides beneath. The room grows silent as metal wheels squeak against the floor. Rustling and clicking can be heard from under the tarp, along with quiet chittering. The nobleman who had it brought in bows to you before making a grand announcement. He’s brought something many people here have never seen before… a spoil of war brought back by his generals. With a crooked smile, he turns and yanks the tarp away… revealing a monster. A harpy woman.

She’s not what you expected. As the crowd gasps and cries out in amazement, as well as jeering in disgust, you can’t help but just… stare. Her avian feet clack against the floor of the cage, talons scratching over metal. Feathers flow all the way up to her hips, appear out of her hair, and stick out from the sides of her head as ears. Not to mention her wings, splaying out in place of arms. Her feathers glimmer in bright flashes of gold and magenta, more beautiful than the finest silks. The tips of her flight feathers had been clipped. And her eyes… they’re oh so very human. Yes… human. As she lets out shrill and frightened cries, flapping her wings, her eyes meet your own, and you feel a sinking sense of dread.

You quickly have the cage sent off to your room, mind spinning as everyone chatters excitedly around you.

… Had these really been the monsters you’d been fighting? The soul behind those golden eyes frightened you, it reminded you far too much of yourself. Of a person… not a beast. Not a monster, not an enemy… a person. Gods help you, what had youur kingdom done? What had you done?

So, yeah! Guess who finally has a new plot? That’s right, it’s me >:3. This time, I come with another sadder plot idea. Essentially, a prisoner of war has been given to the Queen of the victorious kingdom as a gift. However upon seeing the captured harpy, the Queen is struck by how similar they seem to be. Not in appearance, but there’s still something there that makes the Queen feel uneasy. But she has years of prejudice to work through, and now a prisoner under her care and command. She grew up with indoctrination surrounding the war after all, that’s not easy to deal with overnight.

This is intended to be a slow-burn, darker forbidden romance. But it still is meant to be romance, not one of those “I’m gonna take a war prisoner and assault them violently” sort of plots. I’m not really into that.

Your character, of course, will be the queen. I imagine your kingdom to be made up of races like Humans and Elves and Dwarves, so you’re free to work with any sort of ref for your character :3. I have a ref for mine already saved, and I can send it once we start chatting.
