Every year, the graduation ceremony at the Arcane University is a spectacle to behold, and this year is no exception. Demonstrations, light shows, food and drink from around the world, each event seems to somehow outdo the one that came before. But even with all the delights outside the amphitheater, the main draw, without fail, is the Pairing Ceremony.
Those with magical ability are (relatively) rare, and those skilled enough to graduate from the University are rarer still. In order to keep them safe as they make their way out into the world to begin their practical studies (ie, adventuring), each graduate is assigned a Guardian, someone to accompany them on their travels. Shining knights, savage berserkers, shadowy rogues, there is no simple one-size-fits-all classification for those who take up the mantle. To be chosen as a Guardian is a great honor, and each year the University is flooded with applications. The selection process, though, is much more than simple paperwork. Mages and Guardians are paired based on soul resonance, though how this is read is a mystery to most. Guardians are expected to protect their charges for a period of no less than five years, though the synergy required for pairing often leads to lifelong companionship, and romances are far from uncommon.
With each pairing named, the crowd cheers, and the line ahead of you advances towards the stage. Soon, the person in front of you is called, and you can see up onto the stage, where the headmaster stands, reading from his list. As the previous pair steps off the stage, he calls your name....and mine.

Variant: The rivalry between the two factions of students at the University is well known. On the one side, the "true" mages, who weave their spellcraft purely on its own. On the other, warmages, who blend magic with martial skill, delivering spells through their weapons. For the first time in recorded history, there are two graduates, bitter rivals representing each faction, who are not assigned Guardians. Instead, the soul resonance has dictated that their Guardians will be....each other.

Hey there! If you've read this far, I presume you're interested in my little prompt, here. I'd like to play as an adventuring duo, traveling the land together. We can slow-burn the sexuality, or jump right in, I'm open to discussing it. I'm also open to playing either the mage or the guardian. Though, if we go the variant route, I would prefer to be the warmage.
