DO i keep chem if i change formation mid game?

Newb question, i know. New to FIFA, bare with me please. I think the answer is yes but just making sure. If i start at 33 chem in a 4-3-3 and change mid game using tactics to say a 4-4-2, do my players keep the full chem despite now playing OOP? If it is yes, which i think it is, then why, aside from getting full chem, is your squad formation at setup important? Would it make sense to just use any formation that suits my players natural position to full chem, then change as soon as game starts to a formation i actually like to play, providing the players go to a position i want them at?
