What kind of drama are people actually asking for?
Season 3 was eh. I think we all agree on that. I played it twice for my girls and I don't see much replay value beyond that. I get why we all want a more interesting plot (i.e. some drama) for Season 4.
But the more time I spend on the sub the more I notice how many people seem to be unhappy with the drama we get in Season 2, and how many people are annoyed with all the feuds and spats. Op Nope being a big one of course, but also the Shannon-Jo stuff, the Lottie-Priya thing, Lottie and Gary, Blake and Lurik, Gary and Hannah, the list goes on...
I've always felt that seemed pretty much it for Love Island drama. At the end of the day it's a VN game about a reality show that, in real life, is full of dumb, petty drama, with people playing personas that ensure maximum entertainment value. And most of them make sense to me. I've seen people say it's annoying that Hope and Lottie get possessive over Noah and Gary within a week, or Rahim and Jo get so serious within about that time, but... it's Love Island. I mean, we're there for a month. We couple up on Day One and crack on. It's (as Gary says) just bants, it's drama, and from a viewer perspective, great for ratings.
I will include the caveat that I've always played my MC as someone who always takes the high road and tries to get along with everyone in the villa, including Jo, Hope and Blake (I think the overwhelming hate for them is unwarranted; everyone is entitled to their own opinions, of course, but I won't engage or agree). I also haven't yet done a hoe, bitch, or high drama route (like Noah), so maybe the drama is different then? I don't know.
But it brings me back to my original question. Keeping in mind that you don't just have to write an interesting plotline, but also have to account for story branching, different LIs, replay value, realistic characterisation and satisfying different ending threads, all of which are way harder to include in a VN game than I think a lot of people realise: what kind of drama are people looking for that differs from Season 2's drama? What exactly would the story look like in your ideal, but also technically and financially realistic, Season 4?
Looking forward to hearing from everyone!
