I want to start writing that I am not an expert in MH I love the monster design if I may say so I wanted to write a story that involved a Felyne/Palico. From what I know they are the same thing only that Palico defines himself as a Felyne companion of a hunter that's all I know about Felynes I apologize if this story betrays the basic expectations of those who are fans of the saga.

"Gosh it's hard to hunt like this alone" I recently became a hunter like my father and like his father before him, I come from a long line of hunters and it's hard to respect the glory that my family brings with it especially after that I left my family... I had an older brother and he is the one who has the responsibility of carrying on the hunting techniques of my family, I was not taught anything by my father but that did not mean that I gave up on becoming a hunter I left my house there was nothing for me I didn't want to stay stuck there and continue to feel sorry for myself it doesn't matter if I have to try twice or three times as hard as my brother to be a hunter, this is my dream and this is my will.

All good intentions, yes, I know, but the facts are very different. Many times I find myself withdrawing from a hunt both due to the wounds I receive during a fight and because being alone I am easily surrounded so I avoid groups of 2 or more monsters regardless. The place where I am currently is a port city the monsters in the area outside the city are very smart I don't think I have any chance of winning if I face them head on what do I do I'm in limbo on one side I decided to gain experience as a hunter but on the other hand I am an inexperienced hunter who is mostly alone what to do what to do.

While I was thinking I heard a creature roar furiously I had never heard a roar like that from the monsters of the area I was afraid that he had it in for me... but it wasn't like that I could see it was far from where I was but his roar was so loud that it made my legs shake I could barely stand up "hahaha" I laugh to make the fear go away I've been doing it since I was a kid, it works half the time but it's better than nothing.

"Wait I shouldn't be thinking about these things This is my chance to learn a few tricks from the experts I have to get closer" I sneak up to the place where the monster's roar is coming from I mustn't let him see me or else I'll be in trouble."

I arrive at the drawn location and I can't believe my eyes, it's a Rathalos, they should be very rare here in this area, it's completely out of reach for a beginner like me, my weapons wouldn't even damage one of its scales, let alone take it down, I bet it's facing a huge, super experienced hunter but I can't see where it is, I understand that that Rathalos covers a good part of the surrounding area but I should see the hunter who is facing it if I concentrate.

The Rathalos should usually fly to gain an advantage over its prey, but its wings are completely destroyed, they are cut into several pieces making them unusable, the hunter in question knows his stuff, I think he is also alone, I don't see anyone around here who is giving him a hand... no wait, I see a Felyne with a large 2-handed sword, that's his hunting partner... but it can't be, there's no one, I'm sure, the Rathalos is only targeting that Felyne, but it's impossible how he could have made all those cuts by himself.

As if to confirm my disbelief that Felyne charged frontally on his own that Rathalos no words are needed every slash was aimed at killing the beast even I with my inexperience had noticed it but that was definitely an expert hunter.

The Rathalos however was harder to kill than one might think, he had been cornered by a creature incredibly smaller than him, I think his pride is on fire right now, wait, it's not his pride that's on fire, it's his mouth that's about to spit flames, that Felyne is in the corner, he can't dodge it, he'll be killed like this.

What do I have to do what do I have to do damn I'm the only one who can help him but how the hell... but of course I have to distract him somehow I had an old rifle somewhere it won't do anything to him but I have to distract him I can't let that hunter die here, I take aim and "bang" right in the eye I got it there I did it wait now he's aiming the shot at me... I'm dead my journey is over here.

I close my eyes it's hard to look death in the face but I used to peek at my end Rathalos was now aiming for me I was too scared to run away I hope that Felyne ran away he must have been tired after that fight that's okay then I saved a life this was the most worthy of all my hunts.

"....Where is the flame is it still charging the shot" I open one eye to see and the Rathalos was on the ground his head was rolling on the ground... I don't believe it I'm safe I'm alive "hahaha" but so that Felyne gave the final blow, I quickly look for him and before taking a step he was in front of me.

"You may know what the hell you want you were about to die like an idiot but what the hell kind of hunter are you, you are all the same you hunters think you are invincible but surprise you are not, you think that a poor Felyne like me needs help because I am defenseless well I am not I have fought all my life to earn a living... but thanks first... I would have had a bad time if it wasn't for you" .

I stare at the Felyne is a girl the hunter who confronted a Rathalos alone is a girl and she is also pretty, I turn red I am ashamed of my mistake in judging the gender of a hunter I start to speak but she beats me to it.

"Okay listen you saved my life I don't like being indebted to people like you who consider my species as support for their hunts I'll give you 20% of the loot what do you say you're up for it".

As soon as I hear this, an existential doubt comes over me and I bow to my savior "I don't want rewards and I'm the one who wanted to put myself in danger for you, your hunting skills are something I've never seen in any hunter, I don't care if you're a Felyne or not, I only have one request, if you want to agree to this, do you want to be my partner?".

I feel the Felyne flinch at my request, unsure of myself, I reply "It's not what you think, I don't want you to be my assistant, I want you to be my hunting partner, you should know that I'm still at the beginning and seeing your skills made me realize that I need a Master and I want it to be you, please I will do whatever you tell me".

Total silence I don't know if she's gone so I raise my head and see the Felyne clearly embarrassed by my request.

"Part....ner you offering to be my partner" I wag my tail hastily I didn't know anyone would ever ask me to be their partner I don't understand what's happening to me but I have to answer him "cof... cof... if you really want to be my partner that bad I can accept if you promise that I'll be the only partner you'll ever have in your life I'll teach you and we'll be together" I can't believe I said this but I want to set the record straight "In my home village when a hunter of the opposite sex tells a Felyne that they want him to be their partner it's equivalent to your idea of marriage. Get ready because once you confess to a Felyne there's no way out I can't wait I'm inexperienced in these things but take care of me in life and I'll take care of you in the hunt DAR-LING".

Wait a minute, What did you say!!!

I may be strange but I could have written more, I wanted to try to write it to change the type of story, so if it seems strange it's simply because it's the first time I've approached this type of story.

I repeat I don't know MH if someone says it doesn't work like this pretend it's an alternate universe I apologize for the inconvenience I wanted to write a story of role reversal from how I understood Palicos always have an assisting role in a hunt, never a decisive one, and I wanted to explore a reverse type of dynamic between the hunter and his Palico.
