After Turning 18, Derk had decided to join the Military. Tho, when Joining, he was quite the scrawny Kid. The Commander notice this and had a great idea. Ever since the Anthro Acceptance Act 2 years before, Anthropomorphic were able to finally live around Humans, but ofc, Segregation and Racism has to be dealt with by them usually. But anyway, the Commander brought in one of their most experienced Soldiers to train Derk. He would then meet Jessie, one of the most Toughest Soldiers on the Team, as well as being an Anthro. The Commander wanted Derk to learn the act of discipline well. During Derk's First few months of Training, he was struggling, due to barely have touching a weight in his life and Jessie being very hard on him. But he started to get the hang of it. After 2 years, He felt very confident in himself and the Two of them became great friends after learning more about each other's past. They would go on a lot of Missions together and always stayed by each other's side.
But his personal life started to shatter, after Derk got a Text from his Mom, Rachel about her health and he thought she would get better, but didn't, as she was then diagnosed with Stage IV Cancer a Month later. So, Derk had to take a Medical Leave of Absence, and Jessie decided to go with him, so he wouldn't feel alone. A Month would pass by as Rachel got to know everything that he had been doing and getting to know Jessie, but her health was still declining as in the middle of the night at 1am, she would officially passed away. When Derk was given the news, He was heartbroken...ashamed in himself that he wasn't able to be there for her when she was passed away silently...
Then after he came back 2 months later, he lost his confidence for a bit, so Jessie had to find a way to bring it back.
