Starting from Wagner's Der Ring Des Nibelugen, and followed into the majority of movies and TV series of our time, lietmotifs have added an iconic element to the world of theater. Back in German opera, Richard Wagner came up with a brilliant idea to portray who is on set for those in the very back who may not be able to tell. For each character he created a short song to play whenever the character came on, such as Brunhilda's ever famous "Ride of the Valkyries". Now that the lietmotif has been invented, characters can come to mind, just with a couple notes. Everytime you hear any of the marvel super heroes theme, hedwig's theme, the shire's theme or any other song that reminds you of a character or place from a movie or play, remember, Wagner made that possible.
Sauce will be available in comments.
Bonus: Lord of the Rings heavily uses lietmotifs, which aren't always one character, the can also represent ideas or places, in the fellowship of the ring, there are 10, can you find them all?
