I had a Sony A7 IV with a standard 2.8 zoom and a couple of fast primes
When I first started using it I loved it so much, I was shooting every day pretty much. But over time something changed, I realized that I was having to edit every single photo before I actually liked the photos I took, and on top of that, carrying a full frame camera (even though the A7iv is among the smaller ones) to casual settings just felt awkward.
The camera was too big to casually take around without people looking at me thinking I'm a pro-photographer, especially for street sessions for fun.
This is when I was introduced to the Fuji ecosystem. After researching for a long time I finally bought an X-T30ii thinking it was just going to be a fun side camera, but it quickly became more than that.
I was using the Fuji more and more to the point where I hadn't shot with my Sony in a month and I didn't even think about it.
This was the biggest reason for my switch: I realized that when I took a photo with the Fuji I would love the photo straight out of camera, it would give me inspiration joy and confidence right away. But when I took a photo with the Sony I would always think "This looks alright but it'll look way better after editing". I realized this when I'd be shooting portraits of a model and I'd go up to her to show her the photos and the first thing I'd say was "It will look WAY better after edits" (when shooting with Sony). I hated that feeling.
I've now sold my Sony kit and to be honest I'm not really missing it that much. I feel like the only place I'll miss it is if I ever shoot fast paced action and need the reliable Sony autofocus, but I think that will be few and far in between. I also mainly post my photos online and to social media so I dont really need the full frame quality.
I have the XF35mm f2 for daily carry around, the kitlens zoom for general zoom needs, and a Viltrox 75mm f1.2 for portrait sessions if more professional quality is needed.
I just love this little camera and find myself rarely editing photos, the SOOC JPEGs are already so gorgeous with rich tones and colors.
Just sharing my journey and seeing if others have made this jump and how they felt about it.
