Instead of asking "why aren't you going by car?" People should ask themselves why aren't they going by bicycle. I get it, the car is convinient because you do half the fatigue, but that's the entire point of avoiding driving too often. A life too comfortable makes you weak and pushes you to spend more money on things you don't actually need.
Weight hasn‘t really been an issue, no. Maybe I don‘t usually buy heavy groceries, who knows haha But I wouldn‘t want to have it on my back fully loaded for hours
I‘m 30F and into weightlifting, for context
Ooh that sounds great, too!
I‘ve thought about using my hiking pack for groceries as well, definitely better fit on the back and I love me a padded hip belt.
I ended up with the duffel because I usually go the ‚self scan as you go‘ route. This bag is quite easy to keep on one shoulder and to pack up the items as I walk through the store. It‘s horizontal while I pack, so it allows me to put heavy objects at what will eventually be the bottom of the bag, even if I pick them up last.
Huge fan of this system and so much faster than if I went by car or had to use a shopping cart.
On my back! I also do a ton of commuting by train as well, so this is more versatile compared to something fixed to my bike.

Agreed, the canvas bags are making me anxious, the toilet paper isn‘t ideal either.
I use a North Face base camp duffel in size M (71 l / 18.8 gal). Huge opening, solid shoulder straps, durable, rainproof as far as I can tell, size M is great as a weekender and allowed as a carry on on most airlines. I always keep a carabiner on it to hang light and bulky items outside, such as toilet paper.
Definitely worth it.

(doesn‘t usually look as huge, you can make it smaller with compression straps)
