Getting back on birth control after top surgery

My surgeon told me to stop taking my bc pills prior to surgery but hasn’t mentioned getting back on it. I have a post op appointment next week so I’ll be asking him then but I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this so I could have an idea of what to expect before talking to him? Thanks
