Post Body

My gender is forever evolving. Gender is the idea of having traits that characterize a person as masculine or feminine, boy or girl. Societal norms and roles play a big factor finding your gender (if that's important to you). But there is so much more than boy, girl and all the labels in between. What if the label everyone expects you to be makes you feel empty, numb, suicidal even. What if because of societal norms you are told to take off that skirt you really wanted to wear. All you wanted to do was accentuate your hips. You felt confident, comfortable, valid and most importantly, safe. Like they said "trans men can't wear skirts or wear makeup!" "Real men dont wear pink or leggings." What if your own family is forcing you to be an identity or person that you are not? Do we still let societal norms confine us? Or, do we start pushing back? Start showing people that there is more to life than labels and boxes. Let people ponder if you were on a desert island with all your needs taken care of, alone, would the societal norms of gender still matter to you? Are they different? if so what has changed? What do you need to feel valid?
