I work as a ticket-taker in a tourist town. Today, a customer accidentally handed me his daughter's ticket (the name on the ticket was Rachel) instead of his own. The biometrics (obviously) didn't match. I told him it was the wrong ticket and he pulls out his ID, rather than realizing what I was saying. The ID says David.
Then I said "I think this is Rachel's ticket?".
He then realized it was his daughter's ticket, but as he was pulling his ticket out of his wallet he said "Maybe I identify as Rachel today, yaknow?" and laughed.
I don't know what gender he thought I was (I get a mix of "Sir" and "Ma'am" from the public), but even if I wasn't trans it's something people are way too comfortable joking about.
The exchange put me in a sour mood and I'm just racking my brain on any way to educate.
