PSA: you can change your name on credit cards without court order
Post Body

I see a lot of posts where people get worried about their birth/given name appearing on things like IDs and credit cards. I was in the same boat pre name change so wanted to share what I did that really helped.

before I legally changed my name, i was able to get my bank to replace the first name on my credit card with the 1st initial of my first name. So my card just had [single letter last name].

I did it in person at my bank but not sure if that was needed. I asked if they could replace my name with different ā€œnicknameā€, and they said they couldnā€™t put on a different name, but they could put on an initial. (By that logic they maybe also would have allowed a truncated version like the first 2 or 3 letters etc but I didnā€™t ask)

Would recommend anyone who feels uncomfortable about their card to see if you can do that
