So idk what to name this but I've had some really big male privileges happen so me and a female coworker have been trying to switch to a morning shift she asked way before me and she needs it for her kids to pick them up.(I did not know she asked she never mentioned it to me or anyone other then the manager)

the reason why I needed the morning shift is to take care of my mom she had a stroke back in November and after work she kinda just shuts down and my brother won't help her so I have too.

Well I get the morning position after month and my coworker is upset understandably but she's upset with me I didn't understand why at first and my explained it to me. What she said to me really makes sense now.

"well as a man in society Especially with older people it's the man's job to provide and it's seen as you stepping up for the family and you really need this because it's a woman's job to take care of her kids even if she says she needs it they see it as ok but don't to long however if I say it it's seen as omg your doing so much take as long you need".

And thats what she told me an I kinda feel like an asshole for taking the morning shift but at the same time i didn't know she was going for it and I can't give it up my mom needs the help.
