Hi everyone,
My (21NB) partner (20 trans-man) is due to have top surgery over summer. He has been openly trans-masc for many years, but recently became more open in his presentation (changing name, pronouns) and telling his family he wants top surgery.
His family are, sadly, entirely unsupportive. They misgender him, deadname him, and have said they will not support him with top surgery recovery. They are also threatening to stop financially assisting him through college.
I know this is a general question but - how can I support him through this? I’m young and (fortunately) I haven’t had to support someone else through such a sustained period of hardship before. Any tips from those with experience?
I love him so much, and I just want to do whatever I can to make this process easier. I wish his family would come around.
