Hello everyone!
I've just been added as a new moderator for this sub, and wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm a native-born Floridian, have been a semi-frequent poster on the sub since 2017, and am a class of 2020 graduate who loved every second of my FSU experience. I'm very happy to have the chance to give back to this community, which I originally found when I was applying to FSU all those years ago and which helped me immensely during my time there. I'm currently a second year masters student at the rival reptile university that shall not be named and work in healthcare as well (FSU didn't have my program sadly, otherwise I'd have stayed for sure). You can see which university my true allegiance lies with based on my presence here ;)
If you have any ideas on how to improve the sub, or things that should be added, please post them here! I'd love to hear your thoughts and work with you to get them accomplished.
My immediate goals for the sub:
- Creation of a pinned FAQ thread so visitors will have a comprehensive and easy to access resource for all the questions that may be confusing to them, getting them a quick, solid, and definitive answer.
- Organizing an "FSU experiences" thread which will be pinned or linked in the FAQ. Basically, I'll ask current students and alumni to post some of their favorite things about FSU, whether it's memories shared with your friends, the cool opportunities FSU has afforded you, or where your degree has taken you in life. Why? Because this sub is one of the places prospective students look when applying to Florida colleges, and wouldn't it be cool for them to be immediately greeted by tons of positive and happy experiences from the university we all love so much? It puts out a good first impression of the university culture.
- Keeping the moderation and auto-mod queue up to date. I've just cleared all of the posts which have gotten stuck in there over the years, and plan to check and clear it daily to make sure your posts get approved as soon as possible, as I understand how frustrating it is when nobody can respond to your question or discussion because of an auto-mod technical difficulty or low karma number. If I remove your post, I will respond with an explanation of why so you aren't left confused about it.
- Increasing the amount of active community members. The sub has slowed down over the years, and I'd like to kickstart it back up a bit. I have some professional marketing experience and will try to migrate FSU affiliated people from elsewhere on the internet to our awesome sub, so we can get some more perspectives and increase the activity level.
- Occasional engagement threads on a particular topic. How often is yet to be determined, but the purpose is to get the whole community in one place together to discuss something every so often, whether it's memories, advice, current events etc. and we can perhaps create a catalogue of them once there are a bunch and add that to the FAQ as a link to showcase some great community conversations on topics that may not be directly answered there.
Thanks for reading my wall of text and Go Noles!
