Dont know if I want to stay
Post Body

I’m currently a second-bachelors student doing my degree in civil engineering. Recently I have been thinking about transferring schools in state and just need to hear anyones thoughts. I attend Florida State at the FAMU-FSU School of Engineering but am considering transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University.

I’ll give some background, I have completed one degree in psychology at Florida State already and went back immediately to start engineering school. I chose FSU for a few reasons: I already had a lease and was used to the city, already had a job, felt comfortable, and it was a fairly okay rankings school for civil in Florida (I do not want UF/UCF/USF). Although I love it but the class sizes can definitely make it difficult to receive help even when using the appropriate resources, as well as the school of engineering behind offsite about 15 minutes away.

I consider FGCU because I am from that city, it is close to home/family, it will be around $30,000 cheaper (main pull factor), living expenses are somewhat cheaper, closer to my long-term partner (by ~6 hours but still ~2 hours apart), and I have active job/internship opportunities in the field I want. I know civil is not the most lucrative so the price difference is definitely considered heavily, but I am concerned because FGCU is unranked for engineering. I can’t find full information on if the arbitrary rankings or if they even matter in the grand scheme of things.

I’m looking to go into residential construction and the program does align with my goals and accreditation requirement. Does anyone have experience with the engineering school or thought of transferring? Or if you transferred what was your experience with it?
