When considering Frenchie ownership, be aware that at some point in the dog's life, there's a good chance the dog will have an unexpected medical emergency that will cost you several hundred to several thousand dollars, in addition to the cost of annual checkups, grooming, and vaccinations.
If your Frenchie stays healthy her whole life, lovely, you have peace of mind. more likely, at some point we will be facing some health issues- cancer, heart, hips, injury ( examples like IVDD; a condition called Corkscrew Tail, All Frenchies are susceptible to it....)
French bulldogs are more susceptible to genetic health issues than mixed breed dogs, they can suffer from IVDD, spine malformations, a number of airway and breathing difficulties, heat and exercise intolerance, reproductive problems, ear infections, diarrhoea, and a number of allergies, infections and skin problems.
Itβs annoying having a monthly premium until your dog needs multiple sets of X-rays, pain management, and multiple appointments in the span of a couple months. No one would want to be faced with the decision of coming up with $10k for emergency surgery or letting their loved puppy die. It's like a seat belt, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
If you live in the USA at least, the real question to ask is can you pay a $10,000 vet bill. Out of pocket, right now.
If no but you can afford a monthly insurance payment, then you should consider getting insurance. If yes, then insurance will probably not be financially worth it.
Pet insurance in the US is highly regulated. I don't want to recommend any particular company because everyone has their specific case, and policies change from one dog to another.
Lemonade has been amazing. Nationwide and Trupanion are very good as well. i have also heard Fido and Healthy Paws are good.
Here is an article you might find useful about comparison between 7 best pet insurance plans:https://thswiftest.com/the-best-pet-insurance-compared.
For the Love of God people PLEASE GET PET INSURANCE *BEFORE* an Emergency happens.
There should be a masterpost for people trying to navigate pet insurance. (β:
