I recently watched the whole series for the umpteenth time. The part where Stan brings up John Kerry has always puzzled me, so thought I'd see if anyone can explain the reference. Stan brings him up when Xander wants to exploit the revelation of Simon being gay in campaign ads. I don't remember Kerry doing anything remotely like that. If Stan's point is about negative campaign ads in general then it really doesn't make sense because Kerry was the victim of negative campaign ads (Swift Boating, anyone?). If anything, Kerry is an example of how negative ads succeed.
