So, me [F19] and friend who I will call A [F18] started an argument about Israel. We were in a discord call with other friends and we were all playing different video games. Someone brought up how Monster energy supports Israel on a separate occasion so I did a little bit of research and I couldn't find any evidence for that just a lot of people asking if that was the case but no hard answers. So fast forward to the call another friend mentions this again and then I said "Oh yeah I looked that up and I couldn't find any evidence for it just a lot of people asking if Monster supported Israel or people saying that they did." Keep in mind while this conversation is going on we are all playing video games. So friend A chimes in and says "I just looked it up and I found a ton of evidence." So I say "Oh ok what is it I'm curious." Friend A then launches into a breathless rant (they weren't yelling or anything but I can't think of a better word for it, they just kept talking without breaks.) about how because I'm asking for the evidence (the evidence they brought up) that I'm playing devils advocate for the Monster corporation and that it's weird that I want to know the evidence. They kept going on about I was defending the Monster corporation for supporting Israel. Let me make it clear I do not support Israel. So I said to them "No I don't support Israel or a company that does I just would like to know what the evidence is because I want to know what they did. I'm not saying they didn't do anyrhing; I fully believe a mega corporation would do something like this; I would just like to know what they did." After I said this they just kept going in with the same things they were saying earlier. So I gave the example of what if I told you X or Y celebrity was a pedophile? You wouod ask me for evidence right? You wouldn't just believe me when I said that without providing proof." They completely refused to address that point and just kept going with the same. They even said that playing devils advocate is the same thing as asking for evidence about something. I responded with "No playing devils advocate means I'm attempting to make a case for the bad guy, asking for evidence is just wanting to know the details of what happened." Again they completely refused to address that and KEPT going on with the same rant. Throughout the whole conversation I also kept mentioning how I do not support a company who supports Israel, I would just like to know why I'm not supporting a company. They kept refusing to address any of my points and kept ranting; I hope everybody here is smart enough to know the difference between playing devils advocate and asking for the proof about something. I was just completely shocked at how chronically online and frankly stupid their whole argument was. (Forgive me of chronically online isn't the right term.)
