To start things off, I’m twenty-two years old. I never got to experience the film or any of the Friday the 13th films in theaters, and it’s something that upsets me deeply. Freddy vs Jason is a film I often revisit because of how INSANE the concept of putting two of the biggest slashers on screen to face off against each other is and for them to do it quite well is something that I love dearly, but I’d like to know other people’s thoughts on the film. I know the protagonists are fairly forgettable, the story is nothing special, but to see Jason Voorhess and Freddy Krueger beat the ever living shit out of each other never gets old. Everything from the stunts to the cinematography to the choreography of these two slugging it out might just be every horror fan’s wet dream.
So, tell me, what are your thoughts on the movie? Where does it rank in your Friday the 13th films? For me, it’s number one, which might sound blasphemous to some, but I love it more than the others for reasons already stated.
It’s not my favorite movie in either franchise—middle of the pack for both—but it was the 2nd Friday the 13th movie and the 1st Nightmare on Elm Street movie I saw in theaters so it has a lot of nostalgic value for me. I was in NYC during the 2003 blackout and the first thing I did as soon as the power came back on was catch the first screening and I remember joining the audience in cheering when the New Line Cinema logo came on and everyone getting into it like it was a wrestling match (which it pretty much was for the last 30 or 40 minutes). It’s flaws are more apparent now but having been a fan for several years at that point, it was worth the wait
