Being invited to learn about the Masons

At my job I deal with a lot of high end customers. I complimented a guys ring (it was an obvious mason ring) and he told me I need to get with him. I told him I don’t know much about it but a lot of successful people have ties to it so I’m interested. He keeps wanting to talk about it, and I am interested but what are some things I should know before this? What’s the joining process like? Is it beneficial for anyone? Why shouldn’t I continue talking to him about it?
