Have any of you fellow brothers had to deal with open racism in your lodges? If so, how does the lodge or the brethren handle it?
I ask because in my home lodge, we had a petition submitted by a friend of mine who would make a wonderful Mason but happens to be black. When the report of the home visit was given during a stated meeting, the brother in charge of the home visit made a very specific point of saying the candidate was "a colored fellow." When the ballot was done, he got blackballed. A second ballot was done, and he got blackballed again.
Worshipful Master, who had just been installed the previous stated meeting, was PISSED! Our RWB chaplain was equally if not more infuriated. Multiple brothers openly expressed their displeasure, with the newly installed Senior Warden stating that this wasn't a Klan lodge. Attendance at stated meetings plummeted and there are several brothers who I haven't even seen since that night. But as well all know when it comes to balloting, all it takes is 1.
