How often does stealing happen in the MTG community? Does anyone have any stories they would like to share?

I come from yu gi oh and that game is pretty well known for stealing. People litterally used to go to yu gi oh events just to steal. I am just wondering how often does it happen in Magic? I am guessing it happens more now than back then due to RL and other older cards are worth way more now than they did 15 years ago. If so is it common with RL cards more often or just any card? Just wondering since I do own some RL cards worth a pretty penny.
