Morning fragrance friends! It's a rough Monday and I felt like I deserved something lovely this morning, yet I still wanted to try something new. So of course, I turned to Patricia de Nicolai, who did not disappoint:
Parfums de Nicolaï Number One Intense - This is a stunning white floral, grand and voluptuous. She is a plush seductive woman with perfectly appointed curves lounging indolently on a Victorian chaise, plucking idly at sugared violets. Opens with just a touch of aldehydes and a splash of galbanum, it rapidly reveals a heart of pure soaring narcotic jasmine. A touch of fleshy tuberose, an accent of masculine orange blossom, serve only to coax out and showcase those differing facets of the jasmine and not at all steal the show. After about 20 minutes or so, powder rooty iris rises from the base, mingling harmoniously with the other florals in a stately waltz.
In the background, I slowly begin to sense that fuzzy tickling sensation in the top of my nasal cavity that is my reaction to musk, genuine or synthetic.
I love this one. And this is not a knock against it, but this is probably the safest-for-the-masses floral that doesn’t bore me to goddamn death. For a fragrance that is…90% florals, it somehow manages to be complex - I think it’s the headiness that does the heavy lifting here. I’m going to need to do a side by side of this with Odalisque, not because they are sooooo similar but I can’t possibly justify a bottle of both. …Or can I?
(PS the only reason I haven't tried this one before is because I got it confused with New York Intense in my head >.< Otherwise, I tend to approach sample sets from most-likely-to-please-me-based-on-notes to least, and this one would have been one of the first three I tried for sure, instead of one of the last 3 stragglers.)
What are y'all wearing?
